Guide: How to Point Your Custom Domain to Your Site

Follow these instructions to link your custom domain to your website on our platform. This process involves updating your domain’s DNS settings to point to our server.

Step 1: Log in to Your Domain Registrar

First, you’ll need to log in to the account where you purchased your custom domain (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Bluehost, etc.).

Step 2: Access the DNS Settings

Once logged in, find the DNS settings or DNS management section for your domain. It’s usually labeled “DNS Settings,” “Manage DNS,” or “Name Server Settings.”

Example Navigation:
  • GoDaddy: Account > Manage Domains > Domain Settings > DNS Management.
  • Namecheap: Dashboard > Domain List > Manage > Advanced DNS.
Step 3: Choose How You Want to Point Your Domain

You can point your domain to our platform in two ways: by using nameservers or by using A records. Choose one method.

Option 1: Point Domain via Nameservers (Recommended)
  1. In your domain’s DNS settings, look for the option to set custom nameservers.

  2. Replace the existing nameservers with the following values:

    • Nameserver 1: ns1.dns-parking.com
    • Nameserver 2: ns2.dns-parking.com
  3. Save the changes.

Note: It can take up to 24-48 hours for the DNS changes to fully propagate across the internet. During this time, your domain may not immediately point to your site.

Option 2: Point Domain via A Record

If you want to keep using your current nameservers (e.g., for email services), you can point the domain using an A record.

  1. In the DNS settings, look for the section labeled A Records or Add Record.

  2. Add or modify an existing A record with the following details:

    • Host: @ (or leave it blank, depending on your registrar).
    • Type: A
    • Points to (Value): 157.173.208.214
    • TTL: Set to “1 Hour” (or the default).
  3. Save the changes.

This will point your domain (e.g., yourcustomdomain.com) to your site hosted on our platform.

Step 4: Set up the Domain in Your Website Dashboard

Once your domain is pointing to our server, log in to your site dashboard on our platform.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Custom Domain (or a similar section in your dashboard).
  2. Enter your custom domain (e.g., yourcustomdomain.com).
  3. Click Save or Apply Changes.

Our system will check if your domain is pointing correctly and configure your site accordingly.

Step 5: SSL Setup (Optional, but Recommended)

To secure your custom domain with HTTPS, you can set up an SSL certificate. If your platform supports automatic SSL, this will be set up once the domain is correctly pointed. Otherwise, you may need to follow instructions provided by your hosting platform.

Step 6: Wait for DNS Propagation

DNS changes can take up to 24-48 hours to fully propagate. During this time, your domain may not immediately point to your website. You can use tools like WhatsMyDNS to check if your domain is properly resolving.

Conclusion

Once DNS propagation is complete, your custom domain should now be fully pointed to your site on our platform! You can access your website by visiting yourcustomdomain.com.
